Why Does Dr. Jensen Advise Early Intervention?
The American Association of Orthodontists® recommends age seven as the ideal time for children to receive an initial orthodontic screening. At this time, a few key permanent teeth have generally erupted, and after taking a few measurements, we can make good predictions of how the whole smile will develop.
We will then be able to give you plenty of information regarding the presence or absence of teeth, potential crowding or spacing problems, basic bite relationship, or orthodontic problems such as crossbite, deep bite, open bite, underbite, and various detrimental habits.
For some young patients, early intervention can prevent more serious problems later. For most, the main immediate benefit of the exam is a parent’s peace of mind.
Treatment may not be needed for several months or years, but an early screening exam gives you the opportunity to hear about potential problems and plan for the best course of action.
Orthodontics for Teens
For teens around the McKinney area, the most common time for orthodontic treatment at Jensen Orthodontic Arts is during adolescence, between the ages of 11 – 15.
Why Is Adolescent Orthodontic Treatment Important?
By age 12, most or all of the permanent teeth have erupted and are in place. This means crooked teeth, gaps and bad bites can easily be detected. These problems rarely correct themselves, so this age range is when most parents decide to seek orthodontic treatment.
Experienced orthodontists like Dr. Jensen easily recognize spacing, crowding, bite, and alignment issues in adolescents and teens. Also, your teen’s bone and jaw structure are formed enough to allow orthodontic treatment to begin.
Options for Your Teen’s Orthodontic Care
At Jensen Orthodontic Arts, we’re proud to offer your teen’s choice of several brands of clear aligners, metal braces, or clear ceramic braces, including:
- 3M™ Clarity™ Advanced ceramic braces
- Traditional metal braces
- Invisalign®
- 3M™ Clarity™ Aligners
Each of these options offers unique benefits while transforming your teen’s smile.
Orthodontics for Adults
Dr. Doug Jensen can straighten crooked teeth no matter what age you are! About 30% of our patients are adults, and since Dr. Jensen is an orthodontist and a prosthodontist, he’s right at home treating adults with common coexisting tooth issues.
There’s no better fit for adults than with a dual specialist. We offer a full range of treatments specifically designed for our adult patients, providing you with a dramatically different smile and healthier bite.
Because adults usually are more compliant in their orthodontic treatment, their results often can turn out better than those of a child or teen. By following the instructions Dr. Jensen provides, you not only increase your chances for amazing results, but you could also shorten your treatment time, too.
What Types of Braces Are Available?
- When brackets and wires are called for, we offer 3M™ Clarity™ Advanced clear ceramic brackets for no additional charge. We’re happy to provide the best available if you prefer typical metal brackets.
- Lingual braces can straighten your teeth while having all the hardware hidden on the inside of your teeth. This gives the look of no braces while your teeth are being straightened.
- When preferred, removable clear aligners provide another option to discreetly improve less severe cases of misaligned teeth and bad bites. We use 3M Clarity aligners as well as Invisalign® products for this type of treatment plan.
